Govt close eyes even to demands of students: Opposition parities

“CM disappoints every section of society”

Srinagar, Oct 19 (KNS): Stating that there is no harm in deferring planned examinations, opposition parties Wednesday said it is “arrogance” of government that it has closed ears and eyes even to the demands of students.
National Conference (NC) provisional president, Nasir Aslam Wani termed “reluctance of government on the matter as unfortunate.”
He said that the present regime has closed its ears and eyes even for the innocent students. “Government has failed to put an end to the use of pellets. Indiscriminate arrests and invoking of PSAs is going on. Complaints of atrocities are pouring in. CM has disappointed every section of society. Now, the demand of students and their parents is being ignored,” he said.
NC provisional president added that there should be no excuse to force the decision on students who are not ready to sit in examinations “as holding of matter doesn’t fall within the ambit of law and order problem.”
Wani said that this is the height of “arrogance” that government is turning down the demands of students.
“The delegation of students, as reported by media, had called on Chief Minister. What message we are giving to these students who had to run from pillar to post to get their voices heard,” he said, adding, “Even the chief Minister has disappointed them. Where they should go now?”
“If the atmosphere is not conducive for by-polls, how come government claims it to be conducive for exams?Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe demand for deferment of exams is made by students and their parents,” he said.
Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib, Hakim Mohammad Yasin said that instead of giving students concession, the government should defer the planned exams at least till January 2016 so that the students could compensate the loss they suffered.
“I believe that holding exams at this time will prove treacherous to the students in future. If the government is really sincere about educational careers of students, it must act in the interest of students and respect their voices,” he said.
Hakim appealed government to re-consider its decision.
Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) president and former minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir said that the government should focus on compensating the academic loss of students instead of ‘pressurizing’ them to appear in exams.
“The students lost their precious academic session in past three months. Exams should not be held only to promote students from one class to next. But students must be given opportunity to gain knowledge,” he stressed.
He said that government must arrange zero classes for the students till March to compensate their education.
Pertinently, Congress, CPI (M) and other parties have already supported the demand of students and had urged government to give students some relief. (KNS)
