Govt. indecisive over announcing winter break for Valley Colleges

Final call over the issue yet to be taken, says Commissioner Secy. Hr Edu.

Srinagar, Jan 09 (KNS): As bone chilling temperatures in Kashmir Valley are taking toll all across, state’s higher education department is yet to come out with the announcement of declaring winter break for colleges- leaving students in lurch and rattled at large.
Reports inform that there has been no communication sent to degree colleges in Kashmir Division over the declaration of winter break and that the colleges have been asked to function as per the routine. “It s natural that the winter break should have been announced but the government is indecisive about this and no decision so far has been taken in this regard,” says an official in the higher education department.
Commissioner Secretary Education Asgar Samoon when contacted told KNS that so far there hasn’t been any decision taken over the issue.
On the other hand, the college going students in Kashmir Valley are facing tough times amid the sub-zero temperatures, accusing the government of forgetting that colleges too exist in the state.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“This is height of things. How could the government be too non- serious over such an issue. The heavy snowfall across Kashmir has thrown normal lives out of the gear and the government on the other hand wants us to leave early from out homes and report to college. Such bizarre decisions were never witnessed in the state ever,” says Aamir Mukhtar a student.
Pertinently, normal life was last thrown out of gear in Kashmir as snowfall continued intermittently, virtually cutting of the Valley from rest of the country due to closure of Srinagar—Jammu national highway and suspension of air traffic.
Earlier, the Director Technical Education cancelled the winter vacations in all the government and private polytechnic colleges of Jammu and Kashmir. The move is already being questioned by the state’s civil society. (KNS)
