Government's fixed price is an injustice to mutton dealers: General Secretary AKWMD

Srinagar, November 26 (KNS): General Secretary, All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers, Mehrajuddin Ganie, on Thursday declared Government fixed rates for mutton unjustified for mutton dealers.

Talking to KNS, he said that since the rate for mutton has been approved by the concerned authorities, "it is not possible for us to sell mutton at this price".

"Every day, about ten to twenty vehicles enter the valley carrying mutton and supply it to unregistered dealers in the valley on an illegal basis, leaving government rates aside,he added.

"We were selling mutton at Rs 600, which the authorities have changed to Rs 480. Does that mean we were getting a profit of Rs 120 per kg of mutton?" He asked.

He asked, "Can the concerned authorities explain to us that if the vehicles carrying mutton enters the valley, then where does this mutton go?" He asked.

Meanwhile, he expressed his displeasure with the concerned authorities, saying that they are aware that mutton is being sold illegally in the valley in night hours and the common people are suffering amid this.(KNS)
