Srinagar, Jun 22 (KNS): Commuters had to face hardships as the residents of Goonchhi Mohalla Akhal in Kangan Tehsil of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district Wednesday blocked the Srinagar- Leh highway against water scarcity in their area.
Inhabitants of the area assembled at the main chowk Kangan and blocked Srinagar-Leh highway for half an hour, which resulted in the traffic jam.
They were raising slogans against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
Protesters including men and women were protesting against non availability of drinking water in their locality.
“We are facing immense hardships due to the non-availability of drinking water from past several days.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelNonetheless, the authorities after several assurances failed to fulfil their promises,” the protesters said.
They said that they have to travel at least a km to fetch drinking water. “The authorities should fulfil the demands of people at earliest,” they said.
However, AEE PHE and SDM Kangan reached to the spot and assured that protesters that the demands will be fulfilled.
The protesters after assurances dispersed peacefully. (KNS)
