With an aim to enhance their capabilities and employability, Government of India is providing skill training to about 120 lakh youth in the country including Jammu and Kashmir this year.
These trainings would be provided as part of the Skill India programme, which was launched on Wednesday (15th July, 2015) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
“While, 60 percent of the skill training would be done through the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, the balance would be done through 20 other Ministries/Department of the Government of India. This target includes 24 lakh youth to be trained/certified under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) that was launched yesterday,” said an official of the Ministry if Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
“Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is committed to fulfill the vision of the Prime Minister to undertake skill development at an enhanced scale with a view to make India ‘Human Resources Capital’ of the world,” he added.
For Jammu and Kashmir, the official said that under the Special Industry Initiative of the Prime Minister, the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and Ministry of Home Affairs have been mandated to work with the corporate sector in bringing about a positive change in the employment and skills space of J&K.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“The Special Industry Initiative, known as Udaan, targets the youth of J&K, specifically graduates and postgraduates, who are seeking global and local opportunities. Udaan thereby aims to provide skills to 40,000 youth over a period of 5 years in high growth sectors,” he said.
Underlining the objectives of Udaan, the official said that the project aims to provide exposure to the graduates and post graduates of Jammu and Kashmir to the best of corporate India and to provide corporate India with exposure to the rich talent pool available in the state.
Government has recently approved ‘Common norms’ for skill training, where skill training course has been defined to be of minimum duration of 200 hours for fresh training and at least 80 hours for skill upgradation. Common norms for skill training have been introduced with a view to ensure basic minimum standards for skill training. With this, the target for skill training would be revisited and fresh targets for different Ministries/Department for the year 2015-16 would be notified shortly.
