With the Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu camping in New Delhi from last couple of days reportedly for the centre’s special package, KNS has learnt that the Government of India (GoI) is likely to announce a package for Jammu and Kashmir before 7 September.
One of the state BJP minister wishing anonymity told KNS over phone that it is expected that the GOI will announce a special package for Jammu and Kashmir. “I cannot say that whether it will be flood rehabilitation package or economic package but yes surely I can say that the central government is likely to announce a package before 7 September.”
He said that Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu is in New Delhi from last couple of days. “The Finance minister has met the top ministers of the GOI regarding the rehabilitation and economic package. “ During the meeting he has apprised them about the need of center’s special assistance for the flood hit Jammu and kashmir.GOI has agreed that they will take immediate action on the package promised by the union government with the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said but did not disclose the amount of package.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said that the package would include a considerable share for 2014 flood victims, who have not been compensated even ten months after the tragedy.
When KNS contacted Finance minister Dr Haseeb Drabu he admitted that he is in New Delhi but refused to give further details.
It is to mention here that the previous NC-Congress government had sent a rehabilitation package of Rs 44,000 crore to central government for its approval. One year since the proposal was submitted to central government by previous NC-Congress regime no action has been taken so far on the package.
Reportedly the Union government has finalized a massive “development package” of the tune of Rs. 70,000 crore.
However, sources said the State government has put together several proposals, pitching for projects estimated at Rs. 1, 00,000 crore. (KNS)
