GMC Srinagar's Cardiology Department Performs 10 Consecutive Primary PCIs within 24 Hours, Setting a New Benchmark

Srinaga July 07 (KNS): The Cardiology Department of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully performing 10 consecutive primary Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCIs) within 24 hours. The department maintained a door-to-balloon time of under 20 minutes in most cases, with the majority of procedures conducted during nighttime hours.

This achievement is significant, marking a first in Jammu & Kashmir where 10 acute heart attack cases were treated in a single center within such a short timeframe. The Cardiology Department's exceptional capabilities and commitment to high-quality care are evident in this feat.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Notably, the recent surge in heart attacks, especially post-COVID, has been observed in J&K, with a notable increase in cases during the summer season. The patient profile included high-risk cases, with three patients under 45 years old, and remarkably, all patients have survived and are recovering well.

This accomplishment highlights GMC Srinagar's expertise and dedication to timely interventions. Given that only about 13.5% of PCI procedures in India are primary PCI for STEMI, this achievement demonstrates the department's commitment to quality care despite healthcare infrastructure challenges.(KNS)
