Srinagar, Dec 09 (KNS): ANC Senior Vice-President, Muzzafar Shah on Friday said that let the civil society of J&K from both sides of the Line of Control be given a chance to provide a lasting solution to the 70-year-old Kashmir dispute, acceptable to both India and Pakistan.
According to the statement issued to KNS, Shah was speaking at a roundtable discussion organised by the centre for Peace and Progress on “J&K – The Road Ahead and Indo-Pak Relation,” in New Delhi.
The discussion was attended by the Pakistan High Commissioner, Abdul Basit, former MP and Congress leader, Mani Shankar Aiyar, and Rajya Sabha MP, Majid Memon.
The discussion was chaired by social activist OP Shah.
Shah said, “The Indo-Pak conflict was now open to the world through media, Internet, Twitter & Facebook. You can no longer hide anything from anybody in the world. The issue of Kashmir was the root-cause of the hostility between two nuclear powers and neighbours.”
He said that the common man and the forces on both sides should no longer be used as cannon fodder. “It is time to address the root cause of this issue, which is Kashmir,” Shah said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Shah said the people of Jammu & Kashmir have been sandwiched and are suffering the brunt of this dispute pending since the past 70 years affecting both India and Pakistan also at large. “This problem, he said, cannot be left unattended any longer for the future generations to solve. It is our duty to do it and ensure a bright future for our children,” he added.
The statement reads that Shah will be seeking appointments with the Pakistan High Commissioner and the National Security Adviser to the Government of India in New Delhi to once again initiate a practical proposal floated at the highest diplomatic levels in the nineties when militancy was at its peak. “The proposal was the brainchild of veteran Kashmir leader & former J&K Chief Minister Late GM Shah for allowing a five-region summit of civil society at Srinagar, Jammu, Ladakh, Gilgit & Muzaffarabad for finding an amicable solution of the Kashmir dispute,” the statement reads.
Shah said, this will be the fourth attempt to be made by the ANC leadership to set the stage for discussions for a lasting solution to the Kashmir problem. (KNS)
