India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for all five Tests in the upcoming home series against England due to fitness concerns, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed on Saturday.
Announcing the squad, Agarkar revealed that Shubman Gill will lead the side following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant named vice-captain.
"Based on inputs from the physiotherapists, Bumrah won’t be playing all five Tests," said Agarkar. The squad also sees a few notable changes. Young left-hander B Sai Sudharsan has earned his maiden Test call-up, while Karun Nair returns to the team after a seven-year gap.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Pacer Mohammed Shami has been left out due to ongoing fitness issues. "His workload isn’t where it needs to be for a long series," Agarkar stated.
Harshit Rana and Sarfaraz Khan, part of the Australia tour, have been dropped.
