Srinagar, Jan 06 (KNS): Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Saturday paid tributes to the victims of Sopore massacres on their 24th anniversary, demanded impartial investigation into all the gruesome massacres by the international agencies.
Criticizing international community, Geelani as per the statement issued to KNS said that their silence over these gruesome and heart wrenching incidents is painful and their tall claims and rhetoric for their fight against state sponsored terrorism proved mere hoax.
Geelani said that the spirits and courage of people of occupied state are commendable as during all this period they faced the worst situations at the hands of Indian armed forces. “We are duty-bound to safeguard all the sacrifices offered by people,” added Geelani.
“People are being killed on mere pretext and in fake encounters and while commenting over the gruesome Sopore massacre,” Geelani added.
Expressing his dismay over the salience maintained by international community and while demanding investigation by the United Nations sponsored war crime tribunal of all the massacres in Kashmir, Geelani said that “Indian armed forces were committing serious war crimes in Jammu and Kashmir.”
He said that the common man in Kashmir will continue to suffer till the international community takes serious action in this regard.
He said, “The great nations never forget their martyrs and they continue their struggle for which the martyrs have sacrificed their lives.” He reiterated that the Kashmiris would not compromise on their mission.
The pro-freedom leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Mohd Yasin Malik Saturday hailed the people of Sopore for observing a complete shutdown on the 24th anniversary of the “Sopore martyrs”.

“To thwart the congregational Fateh Khawni authorities had deployed additional police and forces in the town, and despite the curbs, the resistance leaders and activists addressed the people in town and paid rich tributes to the Sopore martyrs,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, expressing deep concern over mysterious killings of a youth Arif Ahmad Sofi son of a prominent freedom activist, in north Kashmir’s Sopore, Geelani today said, “There is no justification for these killings.”
“It is unfair and against humanity to kill a person for his specific ideology or affiliations,” Geelani, in a statement said.
Denouncing these killings, Geelani said, “The mysterious killings will lead us to chaos. Teachings of Islam assign extra ordinary worth for human life and saving a human being is like saving of the whole humanity.”
Commenting on these incidents, he said, “Nothing with authenticity can be stated about these incidents and it is still a mystery to divulge about those involved in these secretive killings.
“There is no justification for such killings. Killing merely on political affiliations or for one’s political ideology is against teachings of Islam,” he said.
