‘Coalition is a sorry tale of broken promises’

Srinagar, Aug 24 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) President, Ghulam Hassan Mir has called for a dispassionate debate on the emotions attached to the Article 35-A of the constitution and the economic obstruction that it causes in a realistic fashion.
According to a statement issued to KNS, Mir told a huge gathering in Kunzer, Tangmarg, on Thursday that the emotional part cannot be ignored because this is the history with which the majority community in Kashmir has lived for over 63 years. Any tampering with the Article 35-A has its own pitfalls.
The counter argument that this provision has hampered the economic development for it bars the outsiders to invest in the state should be debated dispassionately. The profits and losses mean nothing before emotions but at the same time the economic aspects cannot be done away with.
There is a need to find a middle way that helps the majority in retaining its identity and ensuring the economic development of the state.
Mir said that it is incumbent upon the Central and the state governments to put forward effective arguments to save the situation from worsening. The legal arguments should be flawless and the state should strengthen its case in the Supreme Court.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThis is the obligation of the government to protect the Article 35-A as a mandatory constitutional requirement.
“We stand in full support of Article 35-A along side with all those groups who have united for its protection,” Mir said. “There is no confusion in our minds that this Article is integrated into our history, emotions and also that determines our faith in the Constitution,” he said.
Mir said that the current coalition government is a sorry tale of broken promises. “It had promised to resolve the issues through dialogue, but instead it has resorted to repression to suppress the voice. Youth have died, lost their eyes, and they have been lodged in jails, some with the stringent laws like PSA.” This is against the promises that it had made to the people.
Ghulam Hassan Mir said that the government has betrayed the youth in the matters of employment. Promised 40,000 jobs in a year are nowhere in sight. And, worse still there are no employment generating avenues either. The government has failed on all fronts. (KNS)
