From battlefields to tourist trails: Tangdhar opens new doors of growth along LoC

Tangdhar, Karnah : 14 May(KNS): In a landmark initiative set to redefine tourism and economic growth along the Line of Control, the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, today inaugurated a world-class Transit Management Centre, an immersive Pahari Cultural Centre, a majestic War Memorial and a state-of-the-art War Museum at Tangdhar in Karnah.

The initiative marks a transformative chapter in the Indian Army’s sustained efforts towards nation building, promotion of border tourism and economic empowerment of remote frontier regions. The inauguration of these iconic facilities is expected to significantly boost battlefield tourism and position Tangdhar as one of the most unique and inspiring tourism destinations in the Kashmir Valley.

Once known solely for its strategic importance and history of conflict, Tangdhar today is emerging as a powerful symbol of resilience, peace and prosperity. Nestled amidst snow-clad peaks, lush meadows and pristine streams, the region is witnessing a remarkable tourism surge driven by the development of attractions such as the Sharda Temple, Azmat-e-Hind and Vajr Gatha.

The newly inaugurated infrastructure is expected to further accelerate tourism in Karnah, generating employment opportunities and strengthening the local economy through hospitality, transport, handicrafts, local entrepreneurship and allied sectors. The initiative is also opening new avenues for battlefield and heritage tourism, enabling visitors to experience the rich military history and cultural legacy of the region.

The towering War Memorial pays tribute to the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice while defending Tangdhar and safeguarding the nation’s borders. Every engraved name reflects courage, valour and devotion to the motherland.

Complementing it is the grand War Museum, which chronicles the military history of the region through detailed exhibits and operational accounts from the wars of 1947-48, 1965, 1971 and the recent Operation Sindoor. The museum stands as a living testament to the heroism and sacrifice of the Armed Forces and is expected to become a major attraction for tourists, students, researchers and patriots alike.

Adding warmth and charm to the tourism circuit is the scenic Sadhna Café, where visitors can relax, unwind and enjoy the breathtaking landscape of Tangdhar amidst panoramic views of majestic mountains and serene valleys.

These transformative projects reflect the spirit of a New Jammu & Kashmir — where border villages are evolving into thriving centres of tourism, heritage and economic growth.
