Srinagar, Jan 06 (KNS): Fresh snowfall in Valley disrupted the normal life while the 300 km long Srinagar-Jammu Highway connecting Valley with rest of the country was closed by the authorities due to slippery conditions.
The flights were also suspended due to the fresh snowfall in the Valley.
Srinagar Meteorological (MeT) department has predicted light to moderate rains and snowfall across the Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
A senior traffic police official told KNS that the traffic from the either sides on Srinagar-Jammu Highway has been closed due to the bad weather conditions.
He said traffic was stopped due to snowfall and rain at few places. “We cleared the road in the wee hours and allowed the stranded vehicles to move but following the heavy snowfall here, we stopped the movement again,” he said.
A top official said that men and machinery have been pressed to clear accumulated snow from.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“I appeal people who are scheduled to travel from the either sides to avoid travelling in the upcoming three days to avoid any untoward incident,” he said, adding that after clearing the roads, the stranded vehicles will be allowed first to reach their destination.
Traffic from Srinagar was stopped at Awantipora, Anantnag and Qazigund, the traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar was stopped at Nagrota.
An official told KNS that operations at Srinagar were suspended and all sheduled flights were cancelled due to snowfall.
Meanwhile, the MeT department has predicted more rains or snow for the next 24 hours. “Light to moderate rains and snowfall would continue in Valley till the next 24 hours. The weather would improve from Jan 9,” he informed. (KNS)
