Srinagar, Jan 25 (KNS): The Kashmir valley is enclosed under the snow, most of the areas have received heavy snowfall; disrupted normal life, and damaged electric lines and poles, left people in dark.
The Srinagar-Jammu road has been closed and Air-traffic remained suspended from last two days.
According to the Traffic control room the road has been closed till weather improves. They said “Any decision about road opening will be conditioned to weather,” Traffic Officials said.
Due to the poor visibility and snowfall, the Air-traffic remained suspended. SP Airport, Manzoor Ahmad, told KNS that, no flight could land here due to bad weather.
“Flights could not operate due to bad weather,” SP Airport Manzoor Ahmad said.
People from north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Bandipora, Sopore and Kupwara complained that in their respective areas there is no electricity from last two days.
Chief engineer Power Development Department Shahnaz Goni, told KNS that all machinery and men are working round the clock, to make supply possible. She said that due to heavy snow fall, at many places supply lines have been damaged.
Heavy snowfall has caused avalanches and took many lives, damaged property. Many trees had fallen and roads are submerged.
The Srinagar city receives 9.8mm sleet, Gulmarg 32.8, Kupwara 12mm while as Qazigund 39.6mm of sleet was recorded, the MeT officials said.
The Meteorological department Kashmir has predicted more snowfall for next 24 hours and issued avalanches 26 Jan.

According to DC Kupwara avalanche warning was issued for higher reaches and avalanche-prone areas of Kupwara valid from January 24 to January 28, 2017.
Locals of Keran, Karnah, Machil, Tangdhar, Budnamal, Jumgund Nowgam, Kumkadi, higher reaches of Kralpora and other sloppy areas of the district have been asked to take necessary precaution while moving outside their homes and refrain from venturing outside during the night hours for their own safety.
