Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNS): Four militants, two army soldiers and one civilian have been killed on Sunday in an encounter, between militants and government forces in south Kashmir's Kulgam district.
One civilian succumbs to injuries at hospital and many were injured in protest after clashes erupted on the encounter site in Frisal area of Kulgam.
Army spokesman in Srinagar, Rajesh Kalia told KNS that four militants were killed by security forces in Nagbal village in Frisal area in Kulgam district in an encounter that began early Sunday morning.
Kalia said that two army soldiers were also killed in the encounter by militants, while three more army men were injured.
Brigadier R Chakarborty told KNS correspondent Tasaduq Rashid that it was a joint operation carried by Army and SOG of J&K police.
He said the killed militants were linked with Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. “Two were liked with LeT and two were with Hizb,” R Chakarborty said.
Briefing about the slain militants, the Army officer said that the slain militants were locals and have been identified as, Mudasir Ahmad Tantray resident of Redwani, Vakil Ahmad Thokar resident of Arigam both linked with Hizb Ul Mujahideen.
While as, Tariq Ahmad Bhat resident of Chake-Dasand Kulgam and Mohammad Younus lone resident of Redwani linked with LeT, army officer said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
R Chakarborty said all the militants were active from last two years in the area.
Meanwhile Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid told KNS that two civilians got also killed there. One was killed in cross firing who was the owner of the house where militants hide.
Another civilian who succumbed to injuries was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo, 22, son of Mohammad Ibrahim Itoo, resident of Hatigam village of Srigufwara Bijbehara.
Mushtaq was injured in clashes erupted after the encounter and was shifted to district hospital where he succumbs to injuries.
According to the eyewitnesses many people took out to streets and protested pelted stones on forces near the encounter site. The forces resort teargas shelling and pellets in which more than 10 people have received injuries.
While two civilians injured were shifted to Srinagar at SMHS hospital for advance treatment, Medical Superintendent SMHS Dr Nazir Ahmad Chowdhary told KNS.
He said both the injured have received bullet injures in lower parts of the body. The injured are under surgery and condition is stable. (KNS)
