Srinagar, Jul 4 (KNS) : Former DDC Chairperson Baramulla, Safina Baig, will join the National Conference (NC) on July 8, in a move that is expected to strengthen the party's foothold in the Pahari-majority belt of north Kashmir.
Safina Baig, who is the wife of former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig, confirmed her decision to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) saying the switch was not driven by vote-bank politics but by a larger objective of building a developmental narrative for the region.
"Politics is not the reason behind this decision. I am joining the NC to build a narrative and work for the welfare and development of the people of my constituency and district," Safina said.

She is scheduled to formally join the party at 11 am on July 8, along with scores of her supporters and workers.
Political observers view her induction as a significant boost for the NC in Baramulla district, where she served as DDC head and was credited with pushing several key development projects. Her entry is also seen as strategically important for the party in the Pahari-dominated areas, as the Union Territory gears up for assembly elections later this year. (KNS)
