‘Summoning, questioning, investigation arbitrary’

‘Summoning, questioning, investigation arbitrary’

Srinagar, Aug 02 (KNS): SKUAST Scientists and Teachers Association (SSTA) have appealed National Investigation Agency (NIA) to follow due process of Law while summoning and questioning Dr Syed Naseem Geelani a senior scientist of SKUAST-Kashmir.
In a statement to KNS, SSTA Spokesman said that according to our reports, one of the scientist of our university(SKUAST-Kashmir) who happens to be son of Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani have been summoned by NIA for questioning, we do not question and have any problem with the investigation process but what we demand and appeal is that due process of law should be followed.
According to our information Dr Syed Naseem Geelani have been summoned by serving a warrant by NIA at 7:00 pm on 01-08-2017 and asked to appear before NIA for questioning at 10 am the next day that is on 02-08-2017 at Delhi.
Such a summoning, questioning and investigation sounds arbitrary as due process of law is not being followed, how can a scientist working in a reputed university can leave the station without any information to his office in such a short notice”.
“It would have been better if he would have been summoned through a communication with a copy to Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and concerned Dean of the university”.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
We condemn this biased and arbitrary approach of such a top and reputed investigation agency of a democratic country like India.
We appeal Home Minister of India and CM, J&K state to intervene into the issue and instruct NIA not to harass and treat Dr Syed Naseem Geelani as a criminal. We have firm belief that Dr Naseem Geelani will cooperate with the agency but such arbitrary approach by the agencies needs to be revised.
SSTA also condemn the biased reporting and statements of some national news channels and newspapers of making a smear campaign and mudslinging in favour of such a reputed scientist of SKUAST-Kashmir, who have been working flawlessly in the university for more than 15 years with due sincerity and dedication.
“Dr Syed Naseem Geelani is a reputed scientist and has no political affiliation with Hurriyat and its working in Kashmir valley, being son of Hurriyat leader does not make him a criminal”. (KNS)
