Srinagar, Jan 06 (KNS): The authorities on Saturday recovered ten bodies from a spot in north Kashmir's Kupwara district where a passenger vehicle was hit by a huge avalanche of snow.
Earlier on Friday, a passenger vehicle was hit by a huge avalanche of snow at Khooni Nallah near Sadhan Top on the Kupwara-Tangdhar road.
According to the KNS correspondent Peerzada Syed from Karnah, Station House Officer (SHO) Kralpora, Wasim Ahmad informed that the ten bodies have been recovered from the spot.
“Eight among the bodies reached Tangdarh,” officials said.
The bodies were identified as Shakeela Begum, wife of Abdul Raheem Parray, resident of Saliman Tangdarh, Fareed Hussain Shah, son of Mehmood Shah, resident of Chamkoot, Fazil Hussain Shah, son of Sarwar Hussain Shah, resident of Chamkoot, Muhammad Altaf Chak, Samandar Chakh, resident of Nowpora Tangdarh, Master Abdul Rasheed Joo, Ghulam Hassan Shah, son of Mir Ahmad Shah, resident of Chamkoot, Shafqat Begum, wife of Maqbool Hussain Shah, resident of Seedah Gandi, Aamina Maqbool, daughter of Maqbool Hussain Shah, resident of Seedah Gandi, Nahida Bano, daughter of Bashir Ahmad Khawaja, resident of Gandi Khajra, Shaziya Begum, wife of Fareed Hussain Shah, resident of Chamkoot.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Earlier on Friday, two among the 12 passengers were rescued from the spot who were identified as 10 year old boy, Rashid Naseer Parray of Sulaiman Tangdarh and Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Ali Muhammad Bhat of Kupwara.
Officials said that the Rashid is currently undergoing treatment at District Hospital Kupwara while Bhat has been shifted to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.
Notably, the rescue operation continued during the intervening night of Friday-Saturday.
Meanwhile, the government has sanctioned Rs four lakh as ex-gratia relief for each deceased killed in avalanche.
Minister for Disaster Management Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Javaid Mustafa Mir has sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) in favour of each of the 10 deceased, killed in an avalanche at Sadna top.
“Instructions have been given to Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to release the relief immediately,” the officials said. (KNS)
