Srinagar, May 01 (KNS): Five policemen and two private security guards were Monday killed when militants opened fire upon a vehicle of JK Bank in Pombai area in Kulgam district. The militants also decamped with the service rifles of the slain cops, police said.
Quoting police officials, KNS correspondent Zahoor Andrabi, said that militants camouflaged in forces uniform stopped the cash van of JK Bank and fired indiscriminately upon the vehicle.
“Following the attack, the suspected militants decamped with their services rifles,” the police official said. Police and security forces launched search operation to nab attackers, the official said.
The officials identified the slain policemen as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Bashir Ahmad Dar (100/GRP), son of Abdul Gani Dar, resident of Bonigam Qazigund, Farooq Ahmad Bhat (No. 332/KGM), son of Abdul Aziz, resident of Nehama D.H.Pora, Mohammad Qasim (No. 638/KGM), son of Bohu Khan, resident of Awoora Trehgam Kupwara, Muzafar Ahmad (No. 1090/KGM), son of Gul Mohammad Bhat, resident of Y.K.Pora Qazigund and Ishfaq Ahmad Hajam (No. 745/KGM), son of Abdul Ahad Hajam, resident of Zakoora Batpora Srinagar.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The official identified the two Security Guards of J&K Bank as Javaid Ahmad Bhat, resident of Vessu Batpora Kulgam and Muzafar Ahmad Laway, resident of Largoo D.H. Pora Kulgam.
Meanwhile, a bank official told KNS that no bank official was killed in the attack. He said that the security guards, who were killed in the attack was working for a private security company.
He added that van was coming back from DH Pora towards Kulgam town after depositing cash in local bank branches there.
The KNS correspondent informed that the incident created chaos in the village. All the shops and other business establishments were closed in the village following the incident.
Meanwhile, JK Bank Chairman and CEO Parvez Ahmad expressed grief over the killing of security personnel guarding the bank’s cash van.
“We at J&K Bank are pained over the killings of these security personnel who were on way back to Kulgam after delivering cash remittance at the Bank’s Manzgam, Aharbal branch. My heartfelt condolences and deep sympathies are with the bereaved families,” he said. (KNS)
