Srinagar, Nov 24 (KNS): Police on Wednesday night arrested five persons allegedly involved in looting of more than Rs 12 lakh cash from J&K Bank branch at Charar-e-Sharif in Budgam three days back.
Sources told KNS that the five persons were arrested by police from Chiwakalan area of Pulwama district during a midnight raid. A police official while confirming the arrests said, “No cash has been recovered from the arrested persons yet. Preliminary investigations reveal that the arrested persons had provided logistic support and shelter to the gunmen who looted the Bank.”
“It seems that some more people are involved in the dacoity and investigations are on,” he added.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Unidentified gunmen had looted more than Rs 12 lakh cash from J&K Bank Malapora branch on Monday. The looted cash was mostly in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.
Meanwhile, a senior official of J&K Bank while terming the reports of alarming rise in Bank looting as baseless said, “The looting of cash at Kishtwar branch is a burglary and preliminary investigations have revealed the involvement of some bank officials in the case. As far as Malapora Bank robbery is considered, police is investigating the case.” (KNS)
