SRINAGAR, FEB 07 (KNS) ; Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Saturday slammed the administration for its “sheer negligence and apathy” towards the victims of last year’s devastating landslides in Udhampur, questioning the elected government’s commitment to basic humanitarian duties.
In a post on social media platform X, Bukhari as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) highlighted that more than five months have elapsed since the August 26 disaster destroyed multiple homes, yet the affected families remain condemned to “subhuman conditions” in temporary shelters.
“The visuals of these families braving the harsh winter under flimsy plastic sheets and in makeshift sheds are a damning indictment of the administration’s priorities,” Bukhari stated.
He pointed out that nearly twenty families have been left in the lurch, awaiting permanent rehabilitation—a promise he claimed has remained unfulfilled due to “administrative inertia.

“The government’s failure to ensure permanent rehabilitation is not just a failure of policy, but a failure of basic humanity. This is a matter of rights, not charity,” Bukhari asserted.
Taking a sharp dig at the authorities, he added, “Upholding the rights of disaster victims does not require any ‘special powers’—only a functional conscience and political will, which appear to be conspicuously absent.”
The Apni Party chief demanded immediate action, urging the administration to move beyond “hollow assurances” and provide concrete rehabilitation without further delay. (KNS)
