Jammu, May 10 (KNS): Five people, including a senior administrative officer and a minor, have been killed in heavy shelling by Pakistani forces across various areas of the Jammu region, officials said on Saturday.
According to officials, the latest casualties include Rashida Bi, wife of Munshi Khan of Keri Kangra, who died in Mendhar area of Poonch, and Ashok Kumar, son of Baldev Raj of Bidipur Jatta, who died in RS Pura sector of Jammu.
Earlier, three others, including Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Raj Kumar Thappa, were confirmed dead in Rajouri district following shelling during the intervening night of May 9 and 10.
Two more victims, both residents of Bihar, were also confirmed dead at GMC Rajouri. One was a two-year-old boy and the other a 35-year-old man, killed in shelling that struck an industrial area in Rajouri.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the incident, calling Thappa’s death a "terrible loss of life."
“Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration. Just yesterday, he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district,” Omar posted on X. “Today, his residence was hit by Pak shelling, killing our ADDC Sh. Raj Kumar Thappa. I have no words to express my shock and sadness. May his soul rest in peace.” (KNS)
