Rich ethnic diversity of Dard-Shina community displayed at cultural evening

For the first time in its history, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Friday hosted a Dard-Shina conference at its Seminar Hall, Lal Mandi Srinagar here. The event was held in association with Jammu and Kashmir Dard-Shin Development Trust.
Welcoming the participating artistes and speakers, Secretary Academy, Dr. Aziz Hajini said that holding of the Shina conference was significant as it was for the first time that the Academy was hosting an event in Dard-Shin language.
He said that seminars and conferences were crucial for the promotion and development of languages and it was important to discuss language issues and find solutions through regular academic and literary discourses. Writers Masood Samoon, Mohammed Ramzan, and Abdul Jabar Chakat presented papers on various facets of Dard-Shin language and highlighted origin, history and present status of this language.
As part of the event a mushaira was also held. Among others poets Ghulam Rasool, Attaullah Parwaz, Niyaz Niyazi, Ghulam Qadir Zaki, Abdul Jabar Chakat and Masood Samoon recited their poetry.
Earlier a qawali in Shina language was also presented before an appreciative audience, who praised the performances of the artistes and appreciated the efforts of the Academy for successfully organizing a wonderful cultural evening. The qawali’s were sung by Yusuf Naseem and party.
Among others social activists Mohammed Ramzan Qurezi, Oman Umar Javed, and Nusrullah were present. (KNS)
