Farooq Abdullah’s Remarks Spark Row, NC Defends as Mehbooba Mufti Slams Statement

Srinagar, May 03 (KNS): PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday criticised Dr. Farooq Abdullah over remarks she alleged implicated Kashmiris in the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Calling his statement “deeply disturbing and regrettable,” she said it risked fuelling divisive narratives and further endangering vulnerable students and traders from Jammu & Kashmir across India.

Mehbooba urged public figures to show restraint, drawing inspiration from Himanshi Narwal, widow of the martyred soldier in the Pahalgam attack, who appealed to Indians not to blame Kashmiris or Muslims.

In a sharp rebuttal, JKNC chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said, “It’s shocking that someone who has served as CM would stoop this low.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel” He asserted that Dr. Abdullah never mentioned “Kashmiris” or “locals” in his statement.

“At a time when we are trying to protect Kashmiris across India, it’s shameful to misrepresent his words. Mehbooba should apologise and delete the tweet unless she can prove her claim. This is not politics, it’s recklessness.”

The exchange comes amid heightened concerns for the safety of Kashmiris after the deadly attack, highlighting the fragility of public discourse in the region. (KNS)
