Farooq Abdullah pays glowing tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his 30th death anniversary

Srinagar, 21 May (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President, Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday paid glowing tributes to the Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 30th death anniversary.

According to a statement issued to Kashmir news service (KNS), while paying rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, Dr Farooq said that the late leader steered the country towards modernity by means of telecom revolution, promotion of computerization, lowering of voting age from 21 to 18 years, laying the foundation of Panchayati Raj and sleuth of other measures.

All the steps which he took were responsible for driving the growth of India in the next millennium, he said, adding that his era marked the giant leap of the country towards modernization and devolution of powers to grass root levels. “On his 30th martyrdom anniversary, I pay tributes to him.

Rajiv Ji will be remembered for his sincere efforts to take the country towards the 21ist century. A person with a deep understanding of problems faced by our country, he had a deep faith in secularism as the bedrock of Indian Nationhood; I pay my homage to him and pray for peace to his soul,” he said.

Among others, Party Vice President Omar Abdullah, General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani have also paid glowing tributes to Rajiv Gandhi. (KNS)
