Sopore, Oct 05 (KNS) : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore Iftikhar Talib on Monday said the first-ever women's sports festival in North Kashmir will be made a permanent annual feature in the sporting calendar.
SSP Iftikar Talib was speaking after inaugurating the Government Degree College (GDC) for Women, Sopore edition of the "North Kashmir Women Sports Festival 2026."
The SSP as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) congratulated the college management and its entire team on behalf of the Sopore Police and the Jammu and Kashmir Police for organising the pioneering event.
This is the first women's sports event in North Kashmir, and I congratulate you and your entire team, he said. Whoever organises an event for the first time does not merely organise it — he lays the foundation for it to become a tradition in the years to come.
Expressing confidence that the festival would become a regular fixture, SSP Talib said, I hope that in the coming years, this event that you have started today will become an annual event in our sporting calendar.

He extended his best wishes to all the sportspersons, athletes and students who had come from different colleges to participate.
Describing sports as a field where there is neither defeat nor victory, the SSP said, "Whenever you step onto the ground, you always return having learnt something or the other."
Urging the participants to compete with enthusiasm and play freely, he said that even if they did not win a trophy, they would certainly take away lessons from the festival that would prove useful in the years ahead.
The SSP expressed hope that the festival would become a permanent event and appreciated the college management for its efforts. (KNS)
