Srinagar, Feb 24 (KNS): Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Engineer Nazir Ahmad Yatoo conducted an extensive two day tour of Chararsharief constituency and appealed Lt Governor C G Murmu to set up a Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) on Doodh Ganga river at Chadoora.
In a statement issued to KNS,Yatoo alleged that unhygienic water is being supplied to a large population in Chadoora sub division and many areas of Srinagar as solid and liquid waste continues to turn doodh ganga water unhygienic.
Yatoo said that from Branwar to Kralpora there is not even a single STP on Doodh Ganga river with the result unhygienic water is being supplied to people.
“ In past the then Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai during his visit to Budgam more than a year back had assured to set up an STP at Chadoora town to ensure safe drinking water supply to around 10 lakh population in Budgam and Srinagar areas , till date no steps have been taken in this regard.

Yatoo alleged that hundreds of lavatories enter Doodh Ganga river from Branwar to Kralpora via Surasyar , Bonyar , Doadompora , Zuhama , Sogam , Kralwari and other areas , but even the Swachh Bharat Mission programme has also not been helpful to address this menace. He said that multiple small STPs is the only solution to address the issue
Yatoo urged upon authorities to create a scientific landfill site in Chadoora and other villages of Chararishirief so that municipal solid waste is treated on scientific lines.
Funds from SBM Gramin can be utilized for solid and liquid waste management in villages Yatoo added (KNS).
