EOW Kashmir files chargesheet in fake railway job scam

 Srinagar, Dec 19(KNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a fake Railway recruitment scam, booking three persons for allegedly cheating job seekers by issuing forged appointment letters, officials said.

The chargesheet in FIR No. 08/2025 has been presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Beerwah, Budgam, under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery), 471 (using forged documents) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Hamid Sheikh of Chewdara, Beerwah in Budgam district; Adil Shah of Sonwar, Srinagar, presently residing at Zewan; and Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar of Hib-Dangerpora, Sopore, presently residing at Rutsuna, Beerwah.

Officials said the case was registered on the basis of a written complaint filed by Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, who alleged that Abdul Hamid Sheikh and Adil Shah had provided him fake appointment letters claiming recruitment through the Railway Recruitment Board, New Delhi. During investigation, the EOW found that the appointment letters were fake and that the accused had allegedly conspired to lure victims with promises of government jobs and extracted money from them.

The probe further revealed that the complainant, Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, was also involved in the scam. Officials said he had allegedly collected money from other victims on the false pretext of providing Railway jobs and issued fake job orders to them. His role surfaced during investigation, establishing his alleged involvement in the conspiracy, they said.

After completion of investigation, the final report under Section 173 of the CrPC was submitted before the court for judicial determination.


The EOW said it remains committed to curbing economic offences and protecting the public from fraudulent job rackets.(KNS).
