Srinagar, Apr 30 (KNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday filed a chargesheet against a man for allegedly cheating multiple persons by making false promises of providing land and government jobs.
The chargesheet was filed before the court of Judge Small Causes, Srinagar, in connection with case FIR No. 84/2022 registered under Section 420 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), a police spokesperson said.
The accused has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Astanpora, Tailbal, Hazratbal, Srinagar.
"In January 2019, the accused fraudulently obtained a large sum of money from the complainants by promising to provide JDA (Jammu Development Authority) land in Jammu and arrange government jobs for their relatives," the spokesperson said.

He said the accused neither delivered the land nor fulfilled the job promises, following which an investigation was launched.
"The probe revealed that Bhat had intentionally deceived the complainants and dishonestly obtained their money through false assurances. Sufficient evidence of cheating under Section 420 RPC was found," the official added.
The EOW has advised the general public to remain vigilant against economic fraudsters. Victims of economic fraud have been asked to report incidents to SSP EOW Kashmir, Abdul Waheed Shah, or send complaints to the official email: sspeowkmr@jkpolice.gov.in. (KNS)
