Srinagar, Aug 25 (KNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge sheet against a man for allegedly cheating the family of a cancer patient on the pretext of supplying medicines at a cheaper rate, officials said on Tuesday.
The charge sheet was presented before the court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar, against Afaq Ahmad Thug, a resident of Anantnag presently residing in Jammu, in connection with FIR No. 25/2026 registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), they said.
According to the Crime Branch, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the accused had promised to arrange medicines for the complainant's wife, who was undergoing treatment for cancer, at discounted rates.
An investigation was subsequently ordered and the allegations were found to be substantiated, they said.
During the probe, investigators found that the accused and the complainant had been schoolmates at a boarding school more than four decades ago, officials said.
Following completion of the investigation, the charge sheet was filed before the court for judicial determination, they added.
The Crime Branch advised people to remain vigilant against economic frauds and urged victims of such offences to report suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir, or lodge complaints through official channels.(KNS).
