Anantnag, Fe 24 (KNS): An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Shalgul forest area of Srigufwara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Wednesday morning. 

An official told news agency KNS that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF had launched a cordon and search operation following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the security forces zeroed in on the suspected spots, hiding militants opened fire, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter. 

Meanwhile, Kashmir Zone Police in a Tweet said "#Encounter has started at #Shalgul forest area of Srigufwara #Anantnag. Police and Army are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice." (KNS)
