Srinagar, Mar 21 (KNS): The residents of Sonarkul area of Safa Kadal Monday alleged that the ongoing restoration work of embankments by Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FC) has led to landslides thereby damaged four houses in the area.
Accusing the higher ups for ignoring their plights, the residents of the area here have demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
Sajad Raja, a resident of the area told KNS that almost four houses including the Handicraft department’s section office got damaged due to the restoration process in their area. “We had appealed several times to the higher ups of the department not in this regard but to no avail,” he said.
He said that houses got severely damaged while I&FC authorities including AEE have advised the owners of these houses to shift to safer places as they declared it as unsafe. “The administration should compensate affected families and should take strict action against I&FC authorities who despite pleads continued with their work,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said that the affected families belong to poor section. “The families are facing tremendous hardships since their houses got damaged. They are living under an open sky. Nonetheless, the authorities are in deep slumber,” he said.
The residents including the affected family’s later appealed higher ups including Governor N N Vohra to intervene personally into the matter ad redress the genuine grievances of poor families soon.
When contacted, Executive Engineer, Ali Muhammad Kachroo said that he is going to meet with higher authorities in this regard. “We assure them of any type of support. We are not going to left them on God’s mercy. Once the restoration of embankments will end, we will help the affected families,” he said. (KNS)
