Srinagar, Mar 10 (KNS): Taking Suo moto cognizance of media reports regarding the death of a labourer engaged by contractor on behalf of Power Development Department (PDD) on March 4, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday directed the department to pay an amount of Rs one lakh as interim relief to the deceased family.
An official letter available with Kashmir News Service (KNS) reads that the chairperson of SHRC, Justice Bilal Nazki has taken suo moto cognizance of the media report published in local dallies on Mar 06 regarding the death of a person engaged by contractor on behalf of PDD on Mar 05 in Budshah Chowk area of Srinagar.
“The commission has directed the PDD department to pay an amount of Rs one lakh as interim relief to the deceased family,” the letter under no SHRC/2017/PS/19, dated 10-03-2017 reads, adding that the department has agreed to pay the amount.
However, the Executive Engineer seeks clarification as to whether amount could be given to any specific member of deceased’s family or his legal heirs.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“The Commission further directed the department to pay the amount to the deceased’s wife,” the letter adds.
The commission said that the Executive Engineer of PDD, Hilal Ahmad has filed the report of Chief Engineer M&RE Kashmir before him and it appears that a police case has been filed and departmental enquiry has also been initiated into the electrocution of Mushtaq Ahmad. “The department shall submit the report of enquiry as soon as it is available,” the commission further directed.
Meanwhile the letter adds that the Executive Engineer further informed the commission that the person who received injuries is in the hospital and is being taken care of. “The condition of the injured person is stable,” Executive Engineer according to the document said. (KNS)
