JAMMU, April 27 (KNS): National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said that dual control in governance is detrimental to the interests of Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that such an arrangement weakens accountability and delays decision-making at multiple levels.
Addressing a public meeting at Gadi in Jammu North Assembly Constituency, Sadhotra lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party led government in the Centre for undue delay in restoring statehood, despite assurances made in Parliament and affirmations before the Supreme Court of India. He also lamented over delay in approving business rules, saying the continued uncertainty has hampered governance and impeded timely delivery of public services.
Sadhotra said that by negating the legitimate rights and aspirations of the people, the BJP is betraying the massive mandate it received from the Jammu region in 2024. The people of the Jammu region are equally affected by dual control on the administration as they are at receiving end on all counts like other parts of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the people had mistakenly reposed trust in the BJP with expectations of responsive governance and restoration of democratic structures, which remain unfulfilled.
Despite these constraints and obstacles, Sadhotra said the government led by Chief Minister Jenab Omar Abdullah is making sustained efforts to enhance ease of living and address the aspirations of the people. He said several welfare-oriented initiatives have been undertaken with the aim of providing relief to vulnerable sections and empowering youth.
Listing key measures, Mr Sadhotra referred to the enhancement of cash assistance for marriage of poor girls from Rs.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel50,000 to Rs. 75,000, provision of 200 units of free electricity to AAY families and free bus travel for women. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to fill 25,000 vacancies in government departments, saying that employment generation for educated youth would play a crucial role in their economic empowerment and social stability.
He urged stakeholders, particularly youth and economically weaker sections, to avail the benefits of these initiatives, describing them as landmark steps aimed at inclusive development. Reiterating the ideological position of the National Conference, Sadhotra
said public welfare remains the core of the party’s political philosophy. He said the party has consistently worked towards safeguarding the interests of all sections of society and promoting equitable growth across regions.
Sadhotra also assured the people that issues raised during the meeting, including the demand for upgradation of a middle school to a high school in the area, would be taken up at the appropriate level for early redressal.
He expressed confidence that with continued public support and focused governance, Jammu and Kashmir would move towards greater stability, development and responsiveadministration.
