DGP visits hospital, HM claims responsibility

Anantnag, Dec 24 (KNS): A sub divisional police officer and his personal security officer were critically injured in an attack by militants Thursday noon in Bijbehara in Anantnag district in south Kashmir.
As per KNS correspondent, police has identified the injured cop as Deputy Superintendent of Police, Irshad Ahmad Rather.
Rather and his police team was deployed for Milad procession in the town when militants opened fire at the police.
The two cops have been referred to SMHS in Srinagar, where from they were shifted to Army’s Badami Bagh Cantonment Hospital for further treatment.
Police sources said that the unidentified militants attacked the police party at Sadar Bazar in Bijbehara town.
Immediately, after the attack police and other security forces cordoned off to search for the attackers.

Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar along with IGP (Kashmir Zone) SJM Gillani, DIG (South Kashmir), Nitish Kumar and SSP Srinagar, Amit Kumar visited 92 Base Army Hospital at Badami Bagh this afternoon and enquired about the welfare of the injured cop.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The DGP enquired about the condition of the injured officer and asked the doctors to provide best possible treatment to the officer and offered every kind of assistance from the Department for the his speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a tele-statement to KNS, HM spokesman Burhan-u-Din claimed that its militants carried out the attack on the police. (KNS)
