Srinagar, August 7 (KNS) : The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has announced a major initiative to improve parent-school relationships and student performance. Starting August 9, officers across Kashmir will visit schools and take part in Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) being held on the same day.
To lead by example, Director of School Education Kashmir, Dr. G.N. Itoo, visited remote schools in Budgam’s Khag zone, including Government Middle School Alamnag and BMS Poshkar. He interacted with students, parents, and teachers, and praised the strong participation of the community.
Dr. Itoo also appreciated students’ performances and announced new student exposure programmes. As a personal contribution, he donated ?5,000 to support student activities and encouraged other schools to follow this example.
Speaking on the importance of PTMs, Dr. Itoo said, “Parent-Teacher Meetings are key to educational success. Our officer-led participation will make them more meaningful and inclusive.”
According to the official plan, senior officers, including Joint Directors, Chief Education Officers (CEOs), and DIET Principals, will visit schools across the Valley. They will join PTMs, interact with parents, teachers, and students, and address issues on the spot.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelOfficers will also collect feedback to help guide future educational policies.
The visits will cover all levels of schools—primary, middle, high, and higher secondary—as well as District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs). All schools have been asked to prepare detailed PTM reports to help assess impact and areas for improvement.
The main goals of these PTMs are to:
Strengthen communication between parents and teachers
Discuss students' academic and behavioural progress
Promote transparency and accountability in schools
Encourage parents to take part in school reforms
Give officers real-time feedback on curriculum and infrastructure
DSEK has instructed field officers to coordinate smoothly and informed the School Education Department in the J&K Civil Secretariat about the initiative.
All parents and guardians are urged to attend the PTMs on August 9 and actively participate in their children’s education. Schools have been told to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment to encourage maximum participation.(KNS)
