Pulwama, Apr 4 (KNS): The Drugs Control Department on Saturday intensified its inspection drive in major commercial hubs of Pampore, Khrew, and adjoining areas to crack down on any violation of drug sale norms, officials said.
The drive, conducted in coordination with the Station House Officers (SHOs) of Pampore and Khrew, focused on ensuring strict compliance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules, they said.
During the inspections, chemists were thoroughly checked, and on-the-spot instructions were issued regarding mandatory installation and maintenance of CCTV cameras with proper footage storage. The department also directed chemist shops to switch over to a computerized billing system and maintain proper purchase and sale records of Schedule H1 drugs, besides examining relevant records in detail.

An official of the Drugs Control Department said the enforcement action was part of a sustained effort to plug loopholes in the sale of psychotropic and habit-forming drugs in the region.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against non-compliance with statutory provisions, the department emphasised that such enforcement drives will continue regularly in the interest of safeguarding public health. Further action against defaulters will be taken as per law, the official added. (KNS)
