Drug peddler arrested in Anantnag, huge quantity of contraband recovered: Police

Anantnag, Sept 16 (KNS): Anantnag police continuing its war against the Drug menace arrested a drug peddler and recovered huge consignment of Narcotic substance, police said on Thursday.

 

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a spokesperson said that Police Station Bijbehara received a specific informations through reliable sources that two persons namely Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Mantoo son of Ghulam Qadir Mantoo resident of Waghama Bijbehara and Wazeer Ahmad Lone son of Jalal ud Din Lone resident of Balyar Marhama have indulged in peddling of narcotic substances and accordingly have hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in their residential houses. 

 

“Accordingly case FIR No. 243/2021and 244/2021 under relevant sections of NDPS Act respectively got registered in police station Bijbehara and investigation was taken up. On receipt of this information, a Sub division level team comprising of SDPO Bijbehara, SHO Bijbehara, DO Sangam and Executive Magistrate concerned was constituted, who carried out the search of the houses,” reads the statement.

 

It reads that during search about 60 KG’s of Charas Powder (chura/crumb) was recovered from the residential house of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mantoo who is an employee of food and supplies department. “The accused was not present at home and efforts are being made to nab the culprit.” 

 

“While during raid on the residential house of Wazeer Ahmad Lone, officers were able to recover about 10.5 Kgs of Charas from his residential house. Accused was arrested on spot and contraband was also seized. Further investigation in the instant cases is going on,” it reads.

     

“#DrugsFreeAnantnag is a special drive started by District Police Anantnag under the Command of SSP Anantnag Shri Imtiyaz Hussain. Anantnag Police once again appeals the people of the District to come forward with the information regarding drug peddlers so that curative steps can be taken against them,” the statement reads.
