Drug-free J&K not just a slogan but a collective war: LG Sinha

Jammu, Apr 11 (KNS): In a historic mass movement to free Jammu and Kashmir from the scourge of drugs, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched the "Drug-Free J&K" campaign from MA Stadium here, flagging off a Padyatra that saw thousands of citizens from all walks of life participate.

The walkathon from MA Stadium to Parade Ground marked the commencement of a 100-day intensive campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.

"We have given voice to a resolve that will reach every village, town, city, home, and heartbeat in the Union Territory, fulfilling the pledge of a drug-free region," Sinha told a massive gathering.

The LG said the next three months are pivotal, with the campaign advancing in six clear phases — awareness intensive drives, youth-focused events, community engagement, strict enforcement, rehabilitation, and evaluation. "We will move forward with a whole-of-government approach to rid J&K of the drug menace," he asserted.

In a stern warning to drug peddlers, Sinha vowed decisive and uncompromising action, alleging that cross-border smuggling is being used to poison communities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"Those who destroy society will face the full and uncompromising weight of the law. Our neighbor is using cross-border smuggling to undermine our nation's future. Their networks will be dismantled without delay," he said.

The LG announced that smugglers' assets will be seized, ringleaders prosecuted, and punishment delivered swiftly. "The administration will confiscate all property, revoke licenses, passports, Aadhaar, and freeze bank accounts. This crackdown will echo through generations," he added.

Sinha also directed senior officers to strengthen grassroots intelligence with the help of panchayats, mohalla committees, chowkidars, lambardars, and ward surveillance committees to identify and punish every culprit.

Calling upon youth, social workers, teachers, women, and athletes to join in large numbers, the LG said, "April 11 is not a ceremonial start but the first step of a transformative march. Let us build a movement so broad, so resolute, and so deeply people-driven that it lays the foundation of a drug-free J&K." (KNS)
