Srinagar, Feb 20 (KNS) : In a significant breakthrough against educational consultancies cheating aspiring medical students, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet against four persons for allegedly duping a Srinagar resident of lakhs of rupees with the false promise of securing his son's admission in a Bangladesh medical college.
The chargesheet was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 20/2025 registered under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Ranbir Penal Code.
Official sources said the complainant was initially approached by his relative, Peerzada Aabid, a resident of Bijbehara, who introduced him to Syed Wasim, proprietor of M/s Europe Consultancy Centre. The latter further brought in two owners of Overseas Consultancy—Syed Suhail Aijaz and Zaigam Khan—who collectively assured the victim's family of a medical seat for their son at Park View Medical College in Bangladesh.

Based on their assurances, the complainant paid a hefty sum, purportedly towards tuition fees, to the accused. However, the EOW investigation uncovered a criminal conspiracy, revealing that the accused fraudulently deposited only USD 8,000 (approximately ?6.04 lakh as per 2021 exchange rates) with the college, misappropriating the remaining amount.
Bank records, official communication from the Bangladesh-based institution, and witness statements corroborated the allegations, leading to the substantiation of charges against all four accused, officials said.
Due to the non-payment of the full fee, the complainant's son was subsequently asked to leave the medical college, causing severe financial loss and mental agony to the family.
The chargesheet has been filed for judicial adjudication against Peerzada Aabid, Syed Wasim, Syed Suhail Aijaz, and Zaigam Khan, all residents of Srinagar and Pulwama. (KNS)
