Srinagar, Mar 13 (KNS): The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Friday welcomed the release of party president Dr Farooq Abdullah from detention under Public Safety Act (PSA) and termed the move “a step towards right direction”.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), NC welcomes the release of Dr Farooq Abdullah who is sitting Parliamentarian from central Kashmir’s Sringar-Budgam-Ganderbal Constituency.
“Dr Farooq Abdullah’s release from detention under PSA is a welcome step towards right direction”, party said
“These processes will receive a further fillip when party vice-president Omar Abdullah and other political detainees are set free. We urge the government to do so at the earliest”, it said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
It further said NC being a pre-eminent political party of J&K it has played a key role in strengthening the voice of the people through democracy and will continue to do so.
It is pertinent to mention that besides pro-freedom leaders and activists, authorities on August 4, 2019 took hundreds of mainstream political leaders and activists under “preventive detention” hours before New Delhi scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. Authorities later on booked less than a dozen mainstream
political leaders including three former Chief Ministers – Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. (KNS)
