Srinagar, Apr 25 (KNS): In a significant development aimed at bringing organisational cohesion to the private education sector in the Union Territory, the Private Schools Association Jammu & Kashmir (PSAJK) has unanimously elected Dr. Baba Nazrul Islam Baba as its state president for a three-year term.
The election took place during the Executive Council meeting held at the Green Valley Educational Institute, Elahi Bagh, Srinagar.
According to an official statement issued here, the decision reflected deep-rooted trust reposed by the fraternity in Dr. Baba’s leadership, known for his integrity and commitment to education in J&K.
Following the election, a solemn oath-taking ceremony was organised at the Ahmad Auditorium of the institute. The event was graced by national education leaders, including Dr. Kulbhushan Sharma, National President of NISA, and Dr. Syed Shamael Ahmad, National President of PSCWA, underscoring the growing national relevance of PSAJK.
Eminent academic Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azurda attended the ceremony, while the Executive Council hailed Mr Farooq Ashai, Advisor PSAJK, for his role in streamlining the organisation.

A notable feature of the event was the full participation of all newly elected District Presidents with their respective executive bodies, symbolising grassroots representation and democratic strength. Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo was resolved to lead the MEERC, the environmental committee of PSAJK. He was felicitated by Shri Shameil Ahmad and Shri Vijay Dhar, chairman DPS Srinagar, for his ‘one tree one admission’ slogan.
The deliberations laid emphasis on institutional strengthening, policy advocacy, regulatory balance, and integration of technology in schooling. The leadership reiterated its commitment to safeguarding private schools’ interests while elevating academic standards and ethical governance.
With a unified leadership and support at regional and national levels, PSAJK aims to emerge as a thought leader and policy influencer in the educational domain of Jammu & Kashmir, the statement added. (KNS)
