‘Patient care will be on top of my agenda’
Srinagar, July 11: Amid prevailing situation in Kashmir, the government on Monday appointed Dr A G Ahangar as new director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura.
Dr Ahangar, was working as the head of the Department of Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery at SKIMS up to October 2012 after which he was appointed as the Director, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong.
He was appointed as Director SKIMS vide order no. 403-HME/2016 dated 11-07-2016.
After taking over as director SKIMS Dr Ahangar told KNS that his immediate priority would be to take care of injured patients who were reporting at the hospital due to the prevailing situation in Kashmir.
He also said his priorities would be to make SKIMS hub of research. “SKIMS aren’t only a hospital but a medical university where research would be given preference. Patient care will be also on top of my agenda,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The post had fallen vacant after Dr Showkat Zargar attained superannuation on June 3. His tenure was marked by a series of controversies and allegations of corruption. On Dr Zargar’s retirement day, the non-gazetted staff, as a mark of protest, had organized a ‘tumabknari’ protest.
Since last month, Commissioner Secretary Health Dr Mandeep Bhandari, a senior IAS officer was heading the SKIMS on temporary arrangement.
According to the government orders vide order number 397-HME/2016 dated 08-07-2016, Dr Riyaz Ahmad Untoo was appointed as the Principal Medical College SKIMS Bemina, which was the long pending demand of the faculty.
The faculty later appreciated the government orders.
