Don’t give communal, regional colour to 1931 anti-feudal mass struggle: Tarigami

“We should not forget that Mian Didoo was one of the first to launch anti feudal struggle in Jammu region

The J&K State Committee CPI(M) expressed its deep regret on the cheap politicization and negative interpretation of the great historic event of 13 July 1931. The senior leader of the party and MLA, M.Y.Tarigami asserted on Tuesday that the event was a part of the struggle launched by the people of J&K against autocracy, ruthless feudalism, total disregard for democratic rights and tyrannical oppression.
“The struggle was not against any community or region, as some narrow minded and myopic groups would try to make us believe. The uprising was against the then exploiting class and their henchmen. It was not against Dogras or Kashmiri Pandits as is mischievously interpreted. In its essence, it was not a Muslim versus Hindus tussle but the revolt of the suppressed against the oppressors. It was in fact a state-wide struggle which continued in various regions in various forms,” he said in a statement to KNS.
“We should not forget that Mian Didoo was one of the first to launch anti feudal struggle in Jammu region and even in Ladakh a number of uprisings were aimed at dislodging the autocratic and anti feudal political structure. The struggle finally culminated in dethroning autocracy and the historic land reforms, which showed the way to the whole of South Asia. We pay tribute to Martyrs of 1931, with the understanding that they laid down their lives, basically for politico-economic transformation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelReligion and regional overtones were insignificant,” Tarigami said.
“We also remember the martyrs for achieving inspiration and resolving to carry forward the people’s struggle against all forms of exploitation and denial of democratic and human rights, Tarigami stressed. He described it unfortunate, that an important partner of the present coalition government in the state did not participate in the official functions held to remember the 1931 martyrs, despite the fact that the functions are being held officially since 1947 and July 13 is a gazetted holiday. The BJP which boycotted the celebrations maligned the 1931 struggle by describing it as a “mutiny against a good government”. By boycotting, the BJP has disregarded the democratic ethos, thereby undermining the unity of the state. It only breeds the divisive and disruptive forces. PDP, (may be for the sake of political convenience) described 1931 martyrs as great heroes and vanguard of the anti feudal struggle in the state,” he added.
Tarigami expressed surprise and said that keeping in view the extremely divergent views on such an important issue, one wonders as to, what is common between PDP and BJP, “except the lust for power.”
