Srinagar, Jun 01 (KNS): Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Jammu issued an order summoning the Editor in Chief, of a local newspaper who video-interviewed some person regarding the pendency of case before CWC, Jammu.
During the interview, the identity of the minor child was disclosed. He was directed by the Child Welfare Committee, Jammu to explain how he has prepared a video clip and posted it on social media, which has become viral.
The action exposed the minor to social media which of course has caused more damage to the chastity and modesty of the child and thus the provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2013 have been violated.
The Jammu & Kashmir Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2013 under section (22) prohibits disclosing in any manner the identity of a child in conflict with law or in need of Care and Protection; may it be through newspaper, magazine, newssheet or visual media and also may it be the name, address, school or any other particulars that may lead to the identification of the child.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAny person who contravenes the above said provision is liable to penalty, a statement issued to KNS reads.
It added that any such violation is cognizable by the Juvenile Justice Board under Sub Rule (8) of Rule (97) of Jammu & Kashmir Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules, 2014. “Now, therefore media fraternity is humbly requested not to disclose any particulars that may lead to identification of the child in Need of Care and Protection and also Child in conflict with Law,” it added.
