Doctors at Bandipora Hospital Save Newborn with Birth Asphyxia

Bandipora, Aug 24 (KNS) : Doctors at District Hospital Bandipora successfully saved the life of a newborn who was brought in with a severe case of birth asphyxia and respiratory distress soon after delivery.

According to hospital officials, the newborn failed to breathe properly after birth and required immediate resuscitation. A medical team led by Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Tafazul Meer provided emergency intervention and specialised neonatal care. The child was stabilised and later shifted to advanced support for recovery.

Medical experts describe birth asphyxia as a condition in which a newborn is unable to start or maintain breathing after birth. If not treated within minutes, it can lead to permanent complications or death.

We are committed to strengthening maternal and child healthcare so that advanced treatment is available locally,” he said.

Hospital authorities said such incidents underline the need for better-equipped district hospitals, reducing the dependence on tertiary care centres in Srinagar. Patient attendants also expressed satisfaction, saying the response has increased their confidence in local healthcare facilities.

The successful handling of the case has been noted as an important step in improving neonatal care at the district level.(KNS)
