Director constituter’s 4-member panel to probe allegations

Srinagar, August 4 (KNS): Director Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences and Principal SKIMS Medical College, Dr. Showkat A Zargar Tuesday said that a four-member committee of senior doctors has been constituted to probe the matter of allegations of molestation against a hospital employee by a girl reportedly under the effect of anaesthesia.
Meanwhile, work resumed in the hospital today as doctors and paramedic staff called off their protest after the arrested employee was released on bail by police.
On Sunday, an irate mob ransacked the hospital property and beat up the medical staff following the girl’s allegation, despite repeated pleas by the authorities that the said employee was only doing his professional duty, and the girl under the effect of anaesthesia could have misread the professional touching of a doctor.
Police was called in and the accused employee was taken into custody. Following the incident of vandalism in the hospital, doctors and paramedical staff of the SKIMS Medical College Hospital at Bemina went on an indefinite strike.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“I know the employee myself from past 15 years. I can vouch for his character. He can never do this. The said girl under the effect of anaesthesia has misread a professional touch by a doctor and the attendants with her joined by other locals not only vandalised the hospital property but damaged the vital machinery of the hospital,” said Dr. Zargar.
“Now to bring the facts on fore I have ordered an enquiry which will be conducted by four members of the hospital,” he said, adding that the employee against whom the allegations were levelled will resume his work tomorrow.
D. Zargar, meanwhile, added that it is difficult for a doctor to work if his professional touch to a patient would be doubted for something else. “People too should see to it and identify between pious and irreverent people,” he said.
He expressed dismay over “one-sided” media reports on the matter and said that few employees within the hospital might be involved in tarnishing the hospital’s image.
