Choked waterbodies restored through PPP mode

Srinagar 05 June (KNS): On the eve of World Environment Day Divisional Kashmir P K Pole along with a team of officers and Chairman Nigeen Lakes Conservation Organisation (NLCO) Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo visited Khushaalsar are of Srinagar’s old city.

 

 Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Ajaz Assad, SMC Commissioner Athar Amir Khan , Vice Chairman Lakes & Waterways Development Authority B A Bhat, Development practioner Arjiman Hussain Talib and Social activist Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat

 

 

Pertinent to mention under Mission Ehsaas, the mission of cleaning of previously dilapidated Khushalsar was accomplished after 3 months by Nigeen Lakes Conservation Organisation (NLCO) with active support of Divisional Commissioner, SMC , LWDA & Irrigation Department.

 

while witnessing the deteriorated condition of Khushalsar, the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) took a daunting task three months back to clean up Khushalsar which was turned into cesspool. Said Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo 

 

“Mission Ehsaas was conceived as an initiative to restore Traditional Navigational Routes of the valley. The mission was started in last week of February. Our volunteers worked effortlessly day and night. The mission was done in collaboration with administration with concerned departments like SMC, irrigation and lately LWDA played a positive role in making this initiative a success “ Manzoor Wangnoo added.

 

Local residents of Zoonimar and surrounding areas of Zadibal etc also took an active participation in the mission. Today, on world environment day, in a special event today the retrieved Khushalsar was thrown open to the public. Local population received Divisional Commissioner near Gil Kadal in an impressive function and then he travele3d in a boat around the restored waterbody. 

 

' We apprecaite NLCO work supported by Div Comm PK Pole and SMC Commissioner. Now Govt must make this project a sustainable model and the further follow up work on Khushalsar and Gilsar upkeep be handed over to Lakes & Water Ways Development Authority (LWDA)" said Mohammad Shafi Malik a senior citizen from Khushaalsar area.(KNS)
