Disaster preparedness training held at GDC Pampore

 

 Pampore, March 25:( KNS) Govt Degree College, Pampore, in collaboration with J&K Disaster Management and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) organized one day disaster preparedness training and mock drill for students of the College today.

 

The programme was attended by the teachers and staff of the college headed by the Principal Professor Dr. Seema Naz. Director Disaster Management/Nodal Officer SEOC Er. Aamir Ali, was the Chief Guest. Dr Irfan Khursheed Shah Coordinator and HOD Geography and Environmental Science gave an overview of the event and highlighted the importance of the preparedness in disaster risk reduction. Speaking on the occasion, Er Aamir Ali spoke about different aspects of disaster management cycle and highlighted the importance of practical training's in reducing vulnerabilities and managing accidents. He also reminded the students of the Islamic values of saving human lives and advised them to apply the life-saving skills, learnt from the training to save lives and prevent mishaps. He also explained simple methods of making improvised floating devices, which could be put to use effectively during floods. The practical training was conducted by Aijaz Ahmed from SDRF, who demonstrated how emergencies should be managed. The training included demonstration on First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), managing choking victims, how to fix bandages during bleeding, emergency rescue methods and types of fires and extinguishers. The students and even the Principal, actively participated in the mock drill, under the supervision of the expert trainers and used fire extinguishers also.(KNS)
