Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir issues advisory for visiting tourists

Srinagar, Dec 15 (KNS): Taking strong note of the complaints from tourists who have visited the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir, of misbranding of machine made products as handmade  items and sale of the notified crafts at exorbitant prices by some unscrupulous Handicraft dealers, Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir has launched a vigorous inspection drive in all the notified tourist areas, to check for the violation of  Jammu & Kashmir Handicrafts Quality Control Act, Jammu & Kashmir Tourist Trade Act 1978 and Jammu & Kashmir Namdha Quality Control Act.  The dealers found indulging  in malpractice are being imposed fines and necessary penal /legal action also stands initiated against some of the handicraft dealers. 

All the visiting tourists through the medium of this notice are hereby informed to ensure   purchase of only genuine handmade Kashmir Art products from such handicrafts business establishments which are registered with Directorate Of Handicrafts & Handloom under Jammu & Kashmir Tourist Trade Act. Before any purchase they should check the credentials of the business establishment through the displayed registration certificate issued by the department.  They should  also  ensure receipt of a proper cash memo for  every purchase and retain /preserve the copy of the same for any future reference.
